Location: Shadow Mountain High School


Temporary Position




FTE: 1.0


Salary: $3,970.00 Addendum per Semester


Tentative Season Dates:
  • 1st Semester: 8/5/2024
  • 2nd Semester: 1/6/2025


All coaches must be a district-approved volunteer. Please also apply for Chaperone, Community Volunteer, or Volunteer Coach positions.

Purpose Statement

The role of the Head Coach involves designing and implementing the athletic program for assigned sport(s), ensuring compliance with rules and regulations, supervising coaching personnel and students, serving as a positive role model, and acting as a liaison for the school and program with other entities.


This position reports to the Athletic Director.



Essential Functions
  • Assesses student athletes to provide feedback and determine team placement.
  • Attends meetings, workshops, and conferences to stay informed.
  • Develops practice regimes for student athletes to enhance performance.
  • Creates game strategies/plans to prepare the team for competition.
  • Guides coaching personnel in instructional techniques and responsibilities.
  • Identifies program needs and makes recommendations for improvements.
  • Implements practice schedules and related events for efficient program operation.
  • Instructs student athletes to promote growth in skills and sportsmanship.
  • Maintains records for compliance and reporting purposes.
  • Monitors student athletes' academic eligibility and provides necessary support.
  • Oversees assistant coaches, volunteers, etc., providing direction and monitoring activities.
  • Promotes the athletic program through various activities to boost interest and participation.
  • Responds to inquiries from various stakeholders to provide information and assistance.
  • Keeps the school athletic director informed of program-related issues.
  • Provides supervision for all athletes and students involved in the program.
  • Explains and enforces the Athletic Code of Conduct with athletes.
  • Maintains high standards of personal conduct and serves as a role model.
  • Ensures all coaches are cleared through the Human Resources Department.

Other Functions

Performs other duties as assigned to ensure efficient unit functioning.

Minimum Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

The candidate must have knowledge of community support organizations and public relations, equipment used in activities, injury prevention and treatment protocols, and relevant laws and codes.
