MIYC Sailing Instructor Job Description
The season for the Sailing Instructor begins the Wednesday, June 19, 2024 and ends August 14, 2024. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30-4:30, with regatta days (Tuesdays/Thursdays) sometimes requiring longer hours. Salary is commensurate with experience.


Qualifications:

• Sailing experience
• CPR and First Aid certification
• US Sailing Level 1 certification
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds
• Must be friendly, outgoing, dynamic, and engaging

The Sailing Instructor's responsibilities are as follows:

• Communicate clearly, directly, and calmly at all times.
• Give and receive feedback to and from peers, participants, and supervisors.
• Show passion about sailing, Fishers Island Sound, and teaching the Corinthian spirit.
• Be comfortable working outdoors, regardless of weather.
• Show positive and enthusiastic attitude.
• Build rapport with students and their families at MIYC.
• Provide active and engaged students' learning of sailing concepts using US Sailing resources.
• Lead, facilitate, and participate in onland activities during down time and/or when sailing is not feasible.
• Create a safe place for participants to learn and make mistakes by clearly establishing limits and boundaries for participant behavior and independence.
• Model safe, respectful, and responsible behavior to participants and peers at all times.
• Exercise sound judgment and decision making.
• Maintain cleanliness and functionality of Junior Clubhouse, watercraft, dock area, and tools.
