A Brief Overview
Under the direction of the Director, Medical Staff Affairs, performs complex diversified administrative, operational and strategic functions. Must be able to supervise medical staff and graduate medical education coordinators.

Must have full working knowledge of the Joint Commission medical staff standards as well as other regulatory agency requirements related to credentialing and privileging of licensed independent practitioners, allied health practitioners and graduate medical education trainees functioning as members of the medical staff.

Must be able to meet deadlines, work on several projects at once, and understand all of the concepts involved in the work performed.

Must be able to work autonomously and make independent judgments.


What you will do

  • 1.Maintain Joint Commission accreditation and DOH compliance
  • Monitor changes and updates in standards and provide training for staff as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain review processes for monitoring regulatory agency requirements. Routinely advise Sr. Director of changes.
  • Coordinate biennial reappointment process with MSA coordinators and Division representatives to ensure compliance with CHOP Medical Staff Bylaws and regulatory agency standards.
  • Communicate regularly with the Sr. Director of MSA and Manager of GME regarding the status of all trainees moving to an attending role.
  • 2. Manage budget for MSA
  • Manages the MSA operating budget, provides monthly variance analysis and oversees submission of check requests and purchase orders.
  • Supports the Sr. Director with the annual planning of the operating and capital budget needs.
  • 3. Provide administrative oversight for internal systems
  • Ensure that database remains up to date and that information is correctly entered.
  • Ensure that primary source verifications are performed in a timely manner.
  • Work with various hospital departments to ensure availability of current information regarding present, and former appointments, resignations and related information.
  • Ensure annual updates of ECMS roster and Medical Staff Appointment lists.
  • Maintain current access codes for online verifications
  • Monitor record archiving schedule and receive written verification of record disposition after transfer to CD-ROM.
  • Coordinate periodic requests for medical staff information from hospital departments such as Public Relations, Development and Marketing.
  • Reports anticipated changes, difficulties with deadline deliveries, etc to director prior to deadline.
  • 4. Supervise Medical Staff Affairs Coordinators
  • Assure that staff adheres to policies, procedures and guidelines listed as essential and job specific standards, including timely completion of annual mandatory education.
  • Monitor assignments to ensure that deadlines are met.
  • Assist coordinators with developing quality improvement projects.
  • Maintain time and attendance records. Approve biweekly payroll in the STAR system.
  • Develop appropriate quality control processes to monitor MSA coordinators' effectiveness and productivity.
  • Participate in performance review process annually. Assist coordinators with developing attainable goals and identifying learning needs.
  • 5. Provide administrative support to Sr. Director
  • Provide support for periodic projects as necessary.
  • Assist Sr. Director in preparing for regulatory agency site visits and surveys.
  • Coordinate annual review of Medical Staff Affairs Office Policy and Procedures Manual.
  • Develop credentialing and privileging operational procedures
  • Advise Sr. Director of licensure or accreditation issues.
  • Assist in the implementation of quality improvement projects as assigned.
  • Provide support for BOT expedited credentialing committee

Education Qualifications

  • High School Diploma / GED Required
  • Bachelor's Degree Preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • At least five (5) years medical staff credentialing experience. Required
