The Fraunhofer Institute for Toxicology and Experimental Medicine ITEM is one of 76 institutes of the Fraunhofer Society, the largest organization for applied research in Europe. The goals of contract research at Fraunhofer ITEM are to protect people in our industrialized world from health hazards and to contribute to the development of new therapeutic approaches. With a focus on cardiovascular and respiratory research, the research and development portfolio includes three business areas: drug development, chemical safety, and translational medical technology.

With around 450 employees in Hannover, Braunschweig, and Regensburg, the institute collaborates with industry, service providers, and universities for the benefit of the economy and society.
