Sullivan Pharmaceutical Technical Assistants (PTAs) work under the supervision of a pharmacist to dispense medications, prepare ointments and other prescriptions, and test drugs and chemicals in the pharmacy laboratory for quality.

This job is characterized by personal interactions with customers, providing advice and health education to patients, and requires a strong knowledge base, a sense of responsibility, and a passion for working with people.


The 2.5-year training program consists of two years of theoretical and practical classroom instruction, followed by a six-month internship in a pharmacy.

With the increasing focus on health awareness in our society, the role of a PTA is becoming increasingly important.

The minimum requirement for this training program is a high school diploma. Individuals with a secondary school diploma and at least two years of completed vocational training may also apply. The program is tuition-free.

The curriculum includes the following areas of study:

  • Dispensing prescriptions
  • Providing advice and dispensing overthecounter medications
  • Offering and providing services
  • Participating in business development and management
  • Quality control
  • Preparing medications
In addition, students will also learn general skills such as communication in German and English.


Upon completion of the program, PTAs can work in various settings, including public and hospital pharmacies, pharmaceutical and chemical companies, the pharmaceutical or cosmetics industry, health insurance companies, as a pharmaceutical representative, or at universities or PTA schools.
