Job Summary:


Responsibilities:

Assists with lays out, installs, remodels, and maintenance of pipe systems for heating/chilling water hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and steam systems within power houses, distribution systems and buildings to ensure adequate, safe, and operable institutional facilities.

Attends all required training as stated in apprenticeship program agreement.

  • 5% Trains to interpret blueprints and drawings to assess and verify specifications and to calculate the materials and equipment required. Participates in discussions with customer/client regarding project plan
  • 10% Gathers materials, prepares work area, and maintains equipment and supplies needed for jobs as instructed to do so by Supervisor and or lead
  • 20% Trains to perform skilled steamfitter work according to established trade standards and applicable building and safety codes
  • 5% Participates in the review of finished projects with client/customer. Under the direction of Supervisor or lead, maintains records and reports of work status and completion according to established deadlines and expectations
  • 10% Cleans work area upon completion of projects according to established guidelines and expectations
  • 5% Under the supervision of Supervisor or lead, collaborates with and assists contractors as needed
  • 35% Trains to install, troubleshoot, and service HVACR Systems and equipment
  • 10% Completion of a registered apprenticeship program training requirements

Testing:

Applicants must call Candy at WRTP BIG STEP to sign up to take the Accuplacer test by June 3rd and obtain passing scores.


Passing Scores:

ACT:
15 in Math and 16 in Reading

Accuplacer Classic: 66 in Arithmetic, 33 in Algebra, and 66 in Reading

Accuplacer Next Gen: 250 in Arithmetic, 216 in QAS and 239 in Reading


Preferred Qualifications (Not Required):

  • Understanding of safety principles
  • Prior exposure to building trades
  • Basic knowledge of tools, materials and procedures used in general facilities maintenance

License/Certification:

Preferred
Drivers License - Valid and Meets UW Risk Management Standards


Work Schedule:

Monday-Friday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Occasional nights, weekends, and holidays.
