Thermal building physics encompasses a wide range of services, from examining individual building components to holistic energy-efficient building planning.

In addition to meeting the legal and normative minimum requirements for energy-saving thermal protection, planning and consulting services in thermal building physics are becoming increasingly important due to demanding requirements from sustainability certifications, funding conditions, or individual objectives of our clients.


As our student assistant, you will be involved in diverse projects and tasks in thermal building physics for new construction and existing buildings.

You will learn about holistic consulting and planning services in a multidisciplinary environment and work together with many other disciplines at Arup.

Your location will be
Berlin and can be partially remote through flexible, self-organized work.


What to expect:

  • Creating and adapting calculation models for energy balance
  • Creating position plans
  • Holistic building energy balance according to DIN V 1859
  • Participation in the development of thermal envelope building components
  • Calculations for summer thermal protection using tabular methods and thermal room simulations
  • Calculations for thermal bridges and documentation, as well as participation in hygrothermal building component simulations

What you ideally bring:

  • Studies in civil engineering, environmental engineering, energyefficient building, or a comparable qualification
  • First experiences in the field of thermal building physics
  • Motivation to deal with technical standards, legal texts, and the state of the art
