- DOP is seeking to hire (1) Agency Attorney to serve as an Associate General Counsel who will report to the General Counsel. Under direction, with wide latitude for independent judgment and unreviewed action and decision will be working in the General Law Unit.
- Conduct legal research and provide legal guidance to DOP personnel on a range of operations such as liability and risk assessments and analysis, enforcement and administration of acts, rules, laws and regulations.
- Negotiate, draft, review and process complex or highly technical memoranda of understanding, contracts, leases and other agreements.
- Review and draft complex, important or highly technical policies, procedures, and operational documents.
- Recommend statutory and regulatory revisions related to agency issues.
- Research and prepare briefs, legal opinions, affidavits, and memoranda of law.
- Respond to Subpoenas and Freedom of Information Law requests
- Prepare position statements in response to Charges of Discrimination filed with federal, state and local governmental entities.
- Act as a liaison with Agency executives and other governmental bodies and law enforcement officials.
- Serve as liaison to the New York City Law Department on litigation matters
- One year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state bar; or
- Six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne

Preferred Skills- Experience in Criminal law and Civil law - Courtroom litigation and advocacy experience - Excellent legal writing skills are required.
- Outstanding communication skills - Strong legal research skills - Strong computer skills in Microsoft Word and Outlook - Legal case management database experience- 55a ProgramThis position is also open to qualified persons with a disability who are eligible for the 55a Program.
