    JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

    CLAIMS MANAGER

    Department of Finance

    Risk Management

    Number of Positions: 1 (additional vacancies possible pending budget approval)


    Under direction, investigates and evaluates claims against the City of Chicago and provides support on litigation matters involving alleged damage to private property.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES


    • Oversees the claims management process for insurance claims filed by the City of Chicago with the City's insurance carriers.
    • Assists with insurance renewal underwriting information, developing renewal specifications, reviewing binders, and with reviewing insurance policies on how they match up with binders and/or specifications.
    • Reviews and makes insurance coverage recommendations on City contracts and proposals.
    • Reviews and approves certificates of insurance to ensure compliance with identified requirements.
    Additional duties may be required for this position.

    HOURS:
     Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM

    THIS POSITION IS EXEMPT FROM THE CAREER SERVICE

    Qualifications

    A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, accounting, or a directly related field, plus five (5) years of work experience in claims management or cost recovery, of which two (2) years are in a supervisory/managerial role related to the responsibilities of the position,

    OR

    a master's degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, accounting, or a directly related field, plus four (4) years of work experience in claims management or cost recovery, of which two (2) years are in a supervisory/managerial role related to the responsibilities of the position ,

    OR

    an associate degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, accounting, or a directly related field, plus seven (7) years of work experience in claims management or cost recovery, of which two (2) years are in a supervisory/managerial role related to the responsibilities of the position,

    OR


    nine (9) years of work experience in claims management or cost recovery, of which two (2) years are in a supervisory/managerial role related to the responsibilities of the position.

    SELECTION REQUIREMENTS


    This position requires applicants to successfully complete an interview which will include a written exercise and/or skills assessment as part of the interview.

    The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral and written parts of the interview will be selected.

    Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:


    • Insurance industry knowledge
    • Familiarity with risk management principles
