The stiftung ear registers manufacturers of electrical and electronic equipment as well as batteries, coordinates the collection of used electrical equipment from public waste disposal companies, and approves manufacturers' own take-back systems for batteries. For these tasks, it has been entrusted by the Federal Environment Agency with the exercise of sovereign tasks under the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act and the Battery Act.
