Grand Canyon Education (GCE) is an educational service company that provides an array of support services in the post-secondary education sector.

Formerly part of Grand Canyon University (GCU), GCE still supports and works closely with GCU.

GCE designs and develops educational programs for GCU and other traditional campus institutions, as well as online partner institutions at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels.

Grand Canyon Education is seeking a new Student Accounts Specialist. Working under general guidance, this position has responsibility for maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the student ledger.

This position ensures the timely and accurate evaluation of accounts, works with operations to reconcile and adjust accounts as needed, resolves credit balances due to students and is expected to maintain compliance and adherence to University policies and government regulations.


Please note, this is a hybrid position where the Accounts Specialist will work in the office and remotely, from home, a few days a week.


What you will do:

  • Works various internal reports to make accounts receivable reconciliations and adjustments to student accounts within specified Service Level Agreement (SLA)
  • Builds rapport and communicates directly with operations/other departments regarding student accounts
  • Maintains the integrity of student information systems through accurate transactions
  • Resolves student accounts ensuring accurate reconciliation and updating in the student database
  • Adheres to accounting policies and procedures and regulatory requirements in all transactions
  • Processes student credit card payments and refunds
  • Processes refund/stipend checks and stop payments
  • Applies funds to campus cards
  • Answers phone for check verification purposes
  • Collaborates with team members and management during daily processes and team meetings
  • Works on special accounting projects as assigned

What you will have:

  • Associates Degree (A.A.) or equivalent from twoyear College or technical school preferred.
  • Minimum oneyear relevant work experience in an accounting or higher education environment.
  • Must pass a preemployment background check(s) which may include credit background.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with CampusVue and higher education are preferred.
  • Basic understanding and knowledge of Title IV regulations
  • Basic understanding and knowledge of accounting principles
  • Strong customer service orientation and ability to meet customer service standards (SLAs)
  • Proficient with computer software such as MS Office Suite and a familiarity with software databases helpful such as CampusVue.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and assignments and deliver work assignments accurately and on time
  • Strong ability to identify data inaccuracies in reviewing financial data and to resolve discrepancies through logical reasoning.
  • Ability to initiate ideas to streamline and improve operational processes, especially in the functional area of responsibility.
  • Skilled in attention to detail and ability to maintain constant focus during work period in reviewing financial data
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills; able to succinctly and effectively detail in electronic correspondence (mainly) the status and information pertaining to student accounts
  • Solid ability to develop and maintain good working relationships both within and outside of the department
  • Solid ability to communicate and work effectively with people of diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability and willingness to stay up to date on regulatory changes which impact higher education student financial reporting and GCU policies and procedures.
  • Willingness and ability to adhere to all university policies and regulatory requirements in all transactions and interactions
  • Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University's Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement and Mission of Grand Canyon University.
