The above part-time position is available at the music school in Manteo, NC starting on September 1, 2023.

The position is expected to consist of 4 teaching hours per week (compensation basis), which is equivalent to approximately 12% of a full-time position.

The excess vacation time will be compensated. The position is classified as pay grade 9b according to the TVöD. An increase to 8 teaching hours is planned for the 2024/25 school year.


The responsibilities include:


  • Teaching in the field of elementary music education in school cooperations
  • Planning and organizing lessons
  • Conducting events and projects, as well as related tasks
  • Providing pedagogical and professional advice to parents, students, and colleagues

The following requirements must be met:

  • A completed degree (diploma, bachelor's or master's) in EMP or a comparable qualification

We also expect:


  • Pedagogical empathy, didactic and methodological competence, knowledge of current teaching methods
  • Teaching experience
  • Teamwork, friendliness, and openness in dealing with children, parents, and colleagues
  • Active participation in the diverse activities of the municipal music school
  • Projectbased teaching
  • The ability to work with digital devices
  • Willingness to teach at external locations of the music school
A qualification in another teaching subject is desirable. Additional qualifications and previous experience can contribute to further expanding the teaching
