As a health and nursing assistant at Drexel, you will assist patients with tasks such as personal hygiene, serving meals, and regularly repositioning them to prevent bedsores. You will also monitor and assess their health, administer medication as directed by a physician, and provide first aid in emergency situations.

You take cleanliness and hygiene seriously, ensuring that beds are freshly made, tables are clean, and patient rooms are tidy. You will also serve as a point of contact, helping patients navigate the ward or facility and providing information to their families.

Health and nursing assistants are the "good souls" for the sick, elderly, and disabled – as well as the nursing team. You will typically assist doctors and nursing professionals, but also work independently and take responsibility for your own tasks. Whether it's helping with bathing, dressing, or eating and drinking, your main role is to support patients with their basic care needs.

You will also provide medical care to acute and chronically ill patients as directed by a physician, such as measuring blood pressure and blood sugar levels, administering injections, or assisting with bandage changes. You will document all of this in daily care reports to keep the nursing team informed. It is also important for successful nursing care that you are empathetic towards your patients, recognize their wishes and needs, and fulfill them individually.
