Essential Functions:
The Peer Support Specialist primary responsibility is to engage, guide, and assist individuals in the recovery process inclusive of pre-initiation, during treatment, and post treatment.
The PSS acts as a liaison and coordinates services and resources beyond clinical treatment such as education, employment, healthcare, and social engagement to support services.
Peer Support Specialist Responsibilities:
- Work closely with Case Manager to coordinate care participants.
- Work within the community meeting participants in different locations to assist in finding resources for various life domains including housing, education, transportation, leisure activities, etc.,
- Develop short and longterm recovery plans with program participants.
- Have regular meetings and conduct weekly recovery checkups with participants regarding their recovery process.
- Works with team to determine what services will best to assist participants in recovery process and to achieve participant goals.
- Complete WRAP for each participant in caseload.
- Enter and upload all needed information the ECR and MHNConnect Portal by established deadline.
- Work on and report on target measures as designed by program.
- Establish a coaching/mentoring relationship with program participants to support and enhance the participants' recovery process.
- Followup with participants regarding access to service needs.
- Share own experiences that lead to recovery as a motivator in assisting participants in recovery process.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Peer Support Specialist Qualifications:
- Willingness to help participants follow individualized paths to recovery.
- Excellent computer knowledge and skills.
- Understanding of different philosophies and processes of alcohol and substance use treatment.
- Good communication skills.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
- Ability to use the computer or willingness to be trained.
- Possession of valid Illinois Driver's license and willingness to use personal vehicle in course of employment.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of a high school diploma or GED from a regionally accredited educational institution which has U.S. Department of Education approval, required.
- Certified Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS) obtained within one (1) year from date of employment is required.
- Prefer a twoyear minimum in stable recovery.
- Should have some familiarity with DMH Rule 132 and its general provisions requirements pertaining to the delivery & documentation of Community Mental Health Services.
