The Business Engineering Director is responsible for taking large, strategic, complex, and/or potentially industry disruptive concepts and developing in-depth technical and project related data, which allows McCain Senior Leadership to make informed decisions to beat competition in customer satisfaction or to new markets.

In coordination with Regional Strategic Directors (primarily Manufacturing, Commercial, and Supply Chain), this role will drive an understanding and alignment of business objectives.

Deliverables generated by this role will then be used to further project development toward Senior and Board level authorizations.


How You'll Help:


  • Lead processes (Optioneering, Strategic Front-End Loading, Capital Strategy & Execution Reviews with Senior Leadership) to develop and prioritize applicable capital projects/programs consistent with business strategy
  • Ensure key capital proposals are consistent with business strategy and the scope, justification, and timing are reasonable, achievable, and aligned with business objectives
  • Engage with business and technology teams to drive business objectives and ensure quality Basis of Design, and associated documents are completed
  • Pull together Business & Engineering Alignment Meeting (BEAM) content and facilitate BEAM sessions with critical decision makers
  • Responsible for effective socialization of Engineering and technical element of scope options across multiple functions
  • Able to effectively communicate benefits and detriments of various options tied to strategic network concepts
  • Support preengineering processes such as asset footprinting, site selection, and Technology Selection
  • Provide and maintain internal benchmarks, while monitoring external benchmarks/metrics, for capital and noncapital related activities to effectively gauge scheduling and cost estimate performance/competitiveness and promote continuous improvement
  • Develop, maintain, and improve systems, historical data, and competency required for cost and schedule targeting, escalation & normalization, estimating & validating costs
  • Provide coaching and performance management for all Regional Project Managers, Plant Engineering Managers, and Plant Engineers as it relates to Project Controls (Estimating, Scheduling, Cost Control, and Risk & Opportunity)

  • Indepth understanding of business unit manufacturing and technology
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the capital project process from ideation through commercial operation
  • Extensive project leadership experience
  • Understanding of Finance capital and noncapital funding policies and practices, appropriation request rules and practices, and project cost control techniques
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills
  • Strong teamwork and influential management skills, and ability to work with people of many levels and across many functions
  • Ability to identify and deploy resources to early investment development efforts
  • Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering or Technical field is required; Master of Business Administration (MBA) or equivalent degree is a plus

Travel Requirements:

To be effective in this role, 25% travel to various vendors, suppliers, greenfield sites, projects, and plant sites in North America (Canada and US) is expected.
