    Are you a seasoned legal professional looking to make a difference in the justice community? We are seeking qualified candidates to serve as Judges Pro Tempore.

    As a Judge Pro Tempore, you will have the opportunity to preside over a variety of cases and contribute to the administration of justice in our court.

    SUMMARY
    The pro tempore will serve a two-year term in the position.

    The Judge Pro Tempore assumes responsibility for overseeing misdemeanors, criminal and civil traffic matters, zoning issues, cases involving orders of protection, as well as injunctions that pertain to prohibiting harassment.

    This jurisdiction encompasses cases brought before the Surprise City Court.

    The role of the Judge Pro Tempore is to diligently apply all pertinent Supreme Court Rules, State Statutes, City Ordinances, and established case law.

    These elements are crucial during the adjudication of bench and jury trials, pre-trial conferences, arraignments, various motion hearings, and additional hearings.


    Judge Pro Tempore bears the task of imposing sentences that align with the gravity of the offense and remain consistent with legal limits.

    This demands an understanding of the law's confines and requirements.

    Demonstrating a comprehensive skill set, this role requires the exercise of substantial independent judicial discretion in effectively managing the court's docket, rendering decisions on motions, and timely adjudicating cases.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    This position requires a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited Law School.

    This position also requires the absence of any form of discipline by any State Bar or State Supreme Court for a period of 10 years prior to appointment.

    Criminal law experience is required.

    CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

    Active Arizona State Bar membership in good standing for at least five (5) years prior to appointment.

    Be free from any discipline by any State Bar or State Supreme Court for a period of ten (10) years prior to appointment.


    SELECTION PROCESS


    Applicants whose education, training and experience most closely meet the needs of the position may be invited to participate in a selection process to include a panel interview.
