DESCRIPTION:


Under the supervision of the CAO, incumbent will support the HR Coordinator in serving as department timekeeper, providing administrative support in the recruitment process (academic, staff and student position posting, resume screening, interviewing), conducting the onboarding process, administering leave programs, monitoring driver records, vaccine compliance, background check completion.

This is a position that is not covered by the Higher Education Employer-Employee Relations Act (HEERA), because it is Confidential - the employee is required to assist in developing and/or presenting management's position with respect to negotiations with union/s.

Applies full range of specialized skills and job knowledge; frequently adapts procedures, techniques, tools, materials, and/or equipment to meet specialized needs; performs broad and/or focused assignments under general supervision; originality and ingenuity are often required to help.

Assists HR coordinator with advanced HR processes and procedures, such as coordinating workers' compensation, FMLA, disability and other leaves of absences, and other actions related to bargaining agreements.

Resolves HR processing issues. Maintains and recommends improvements to internal employee recordkeeping systems. Independently advises employees on standard HR practices and procedures.

  • Must be able to work overtime as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Experience in investigating issues/problems and initiating solutions by communicating problems to the HR Manager. Skill to exercise effective control of situations or events in the absence of higher authority and ability to make recommendations or decisions that affect office and departmental operations and activities.
  • Advanced knowledge of HR processes for data entry into HRMS.
  • Advanced knowledge of HR processes and procedures for maintenance and purging of personnel files.
  • Requires good verbal and written communication skills, active listening, critical thinking, multitasking and time management skills.
  • Skill in managing sensitive and confidential information regarding bargaining unit issues.
  • Requires interpersonal and work leadership skills to provide guidance to other nonexempt personnel.
  • Ability to research, gather and organize information to produce concise reports using various resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, take ownership of work performance, follow through on assignments, and identify problems and resolve or recommend course of action for resolution as appropriate.
  • Ability to calculate complex calculations for retrosalary equity increases, reclassifications, and administrative stipends.
  • Knowledge of organization and department job posting procedures.
  • Demonstrated intermediate to advanced skill in the use of a variety of computer software, platforms and systems, including, but not limited to Excel, Access, and Word, with the willingness and ability to update skills and knowledge as required.
  • Willingness and ability to meet University and department standards for attendance.
  • Willingness and ability to embrace and follow the UCSD Principles of Community.

PREFERRED:


  • Knowledge of Federal & State, as well as local educational agency rules and regulations to ensure compliance with auditing and reporting requirements, and to translate them into daily departmental practices.
  • Knowledge of UC benefits eligibility requirements.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS:


  • FBI/DOJ Live Scan background check required.
  • Tuberculosis (TB) screening required.
  • Duties will require direct contact with children (defined as individuals under the age of 18); completion of the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) form is required.

Annual Full Pay Range:
$52,100 - $87,900 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)


Hourly Equivalent:
$ $42.10
