    Job Summary

    Assists in planning, organizing, and implementing events and functions, which includes, but is not limited to, department grand rounds, lectures, symposiums, conferences, program events, banquets, and meetings hosted by the chair's office. May independently manage small, non-complex events.

    The majority of time will be focused on departmental grand rounds and related activities, including, but not limited to CME, the grand rounds committee, and attendance monitoring/tracking. Significant time will also be spend on special department lectures and symposiums, described below in the key responsibilities section.

    In addition to the areas mentioned above, the incumbent will help manage all departmental events and related activities and work closely with the operations team, the chair's office staff and others in the department.

    There is no management responsibility for department facilities or other areas overseen by the operations team, but the incumbent will need to collaborate and partner with this team and others closely to ensure the success of activities and events.

    Department Description

    The UCSF Department of Psychiatry is among the nation's foremost resources in the field of child, adolescent and adult mental health. Psychiatry faculty members are recognized for their leadership roles in state-of-the-art, comprehensive and compassionate patient care, pioneering research, excellence in training the next generation of leaders, advancing public policy to advance mental health, and commitment to diversity.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelors' degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
    • Working knowledge of concepts, principles and practices of event planning and production and public relations.
    • Working knowledge of the campus, its programs, policies, mission, goals, objectives, achievements and infrastructure.
    • Working organizational skills, including skill in effectively coordinating and organizing multiple details. Excellent organizational abilities appropriate to effective calendar management and student and / or volunteer scheduling.
    • Good interpersonal communication skills and political acumen, including skill in effectively representing the campus, medical center or other university organization to its publics.
    • Good judgment and effective decision-making and problem resolution skills, including skill to recognize and deal effectively and appropriately with real and potential problem areas, including skill to determine the issues / problems that need to be brought to the attention of higher level staff and / or management.
    • Ability to work in diverse groups, including but not limited to students, staff, faculty, general public, production personnel, technical operators and performing artists.
    • Ability to work professionally under pressure and under tight deadlines ensuring excellent customer service support.
