Every year, we are looking for over 5,000 apprentices in 50 different professions who want to grow and improve with us.

We are currently seeking candidates for a 3-year apprenticeship as a locomotive shunter (railway employee in the operations department, specializing in train driving and transportation) (m/f/d) for DB Cargo AG at our location in Dillingen (Saar).

The vocational school is located in Homburg (Saar).

As an apprentice, you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Driving a diesel locomotive to nearby customers, such as various companies, to pick up goods for transport
  • Shunting freight cars onto the appropriate tracks
  • Assembling trains by coupling and uncoupling individual cars
  • Mastering the rules for safe railway operations and becoming familiar with your vehicle
  • Checking the functionality of freight trains and securing the cargo
  • Starting and ending your workday at your local shunting yard
To be considered for this apprenticeship, you should meet the following requirements:

  • Completed or soon-to-be completed education and a passion for technology
  • Enjoy working outdoors
  • Able to remain calm and organized in challenging situations
  • Willing to take on responsibility and make decisions
  • Reliable and able to handle stress
  • Willing to work in shifts, including weekends and holidays
