Job Title:
Research Associate (f/m/d) for KI4D4E Project: Simulation-driven deep neural network training for 4D tomography

Organization Unit:
Laboratory for Applications of Synchrotron Radiation (LAS)

Your Responsibilities:

4D X-ray Computed Tomography (4D-CT) methods allow for the study of structural changes in dynamic processes in three spatial dimensions and over time.

This has the potential to provide valuable insights into various fields such as materials research, life sciences, chemistry, physics, and engineering (e.g. battery research, damage analysis, advanced materials).

The KI4D4E project aims to improve the efficiency of 4D-CT methods at synchrotron and neutron sources.

This includes addressing challenges in analyzing large and complex data sets, enhancing image contrast, removing artifacts, and developing algorithms for 3D and 4D image reconstruction and analysis.

The goal is to utilize machine learning-based approaches to automate and speed up these tasks, allowing researchers to focus on interpreting results.

Providing diverse and large-scale training data, particularly for deep neural networks (DNNs), is crucial for machine learning-based methods.

It is also important for the training data to have a known ground truth for objective evaluation of algorithm performance.

Simulation is a valuable tool for generating this data, utilizing our knowledge of the studied processes and image formation. However, high-fidelity simulations are necessary to avoid overfitting of the trained
