The Plötzensee Correctional Facility is located adjacent to the A100 highway in the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district and consists of two large complexes with a historic past.

The facility has existed in its current form since 2013.

The approximately 630 employees from various different professional groups work hand in hand every day to fulfill the legal mandate: they shape and secure all processes related to the care of up to 700 prisoners.

The Plötzensee Correctional Facility is exclusively occupied by adult male prisoners and is divided into three sub-facilities. These include closed and open housing areas. In addition, the Plötzensee Correctional Facility also carries out substitute custodial sentences.

The facility also serves as a central service provider for the entire Berlin justice system.

This includes, for example, the Central Driving Service of the Berlin justice system, the Central Catering Management, and a laundry facility.

Across facilities, the Plötzensee Correctional Facility also ensures the medical care of all Berlin prisoners through the on-site
