Introduction:
THIS IS A NEW ASSEMBLED EXAMINATION. The eligible list resulting from this examination will cancel any existing list and may last approximately one year but can be extended.
REQUIRED:
Applicants must have and maintain a California Motor Vehicle Class A commercial driver's license with Tanks (N) endorsement, a valid Medical Certificate and an 18-months clean driving record.
A clean driving record consist of no violations.
Failure to submit the Application or official DMV print out with Tanks (N) endorsement and valid Medical Certificate will result in disqualification.

DESCRIPTION:
THE AGENCY
- The mission of Public Works is to enhance the quality of life for the people of Alameda County by providing a safe, wellmaintained, and lasting public works infrastructure through accessible, responsive and effective services.
- Public services provided by the Alameda County Public Works Agency include flood and storm water pollution control, transportation planning and design, roadway and flood control maintenance and inspection, and construction and building inspections.
- The goals of the Agency are to keep roads safe and well maintained, provide the highest level of flood protection, provide service levels that optimize infrastructure life cycles, minimize deferred maintenance, ensure that development and construction adhere to applicable State and County rules, optimize disaster preparedness, response and recover, ensure that the Agency's operations and services minimize negative impacts on the environment, and sustain and advance County and Agency programs through a vital business and administrative support system.
THE POSITION
Under general supervision, to work as a lead person on a maintenance and construction crew building, repairing, and maintaining roads, bridges, box culverts, reinforced concrete structures, earth and concrete-lined flood control channels, or other road and channel structures, and to do related work as required.
Incumbents act as lead persons for construction crews consisting of a variety of classifications in the Maintenance and Operations Department.
Crew Leaders may also work from plans and blueprints.Incumbents also direct subordinate members of their crew in the use of power equipment such as chain saws, weed eaters, electric drills and saws, concrete mixers and compressors.
Crew Leader differs from the next higher class of Field Maintenance Supervisor in that the latter is responsible for more than one crew, as well as more than one project.

Either I
Experience:
The equivalent of one year of full-time experience in the class of Heavy Truck Driver or the equivalent or higher level of the maintenance and construction class in the Alameda County classified service.
Or II
Experience:
The equivalent of two years of full-time experience in the class of Laborer in the Alameda County classified service. (Non-classified includes District Attorney's Office, Hospital Authority, and the Consolidated Courts.)
Or III
Experience:
The equivalent of three years of full-time experience supervising construction crews.
Working Conditions:
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Subject to intense heat
- Work on uneven surfaces
- Subject to loud noises
- Work in confined spaces
- Contact with dust, dirt, poisonous plants, dead and live animals, used syringes and condoms, feces, urine, chemicals, paints, petroleum products, etc.
- Work in high traffic areas
- Subject to climbing ladders, working from heights, working in moving water, bending, stooping, lifting heavy objects, crawling through small spaces, working overhead, etc.
NOTE:
The Civil Service Commission may modify the above minimum qualifications in the announcement of an examination.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Knowledge of:
- CA Biennial Inspection of Terminal (BIT) regulations pertaining to Class A Drivers, including Hours of Service, Daily Vehicle Inspection reports and Drivers Logs.
- Pertinent provisions of the California Motor Vehicle Code.
