Job Overview


The People & Culture Manager is responsible for operating in all human resources functions including learning and development, employee database maintenance, culture and colleague relations, payroll and benefits, talent acquisition, performance management, and onboarding and offboarding.

particular facets of P&C processes such as recruitment, onboarding, and training. This position reports to the Director of People & Culture.

Position Responsibilities

  • Assist in the recruitment process, such as posting job openings, sending offer letters, and onboarding activities.
  • Serve as liaison with managers and new seasonal colleagues from the initial ready to start communication through the first 90 days of employment
  • Perform payroll functions to support the People & Culture Coordinator and Payroll Manager
  • Act as the primary custodian for colleague data management and records recovery for colleagues using ADP and internal platforms
  • Handles employment related inquiring from colleagues and people managers, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the Director of People & Culture
  • Assist with conducting effective, thorough, and objective investigations
  • Manage internal promotion and transfer policies and procedures pursuant to the Proper handbook and Collective Bargaining Agreement
  • Provide day to day performance management to managers (e.g. coaching, counseling, conflict resolution, career development, progressive discipline, separations, etc.)
  • Direct colleague benefit programs and answer colleague questions related to benefits including but not limited to healthcare benefits, time off benefits, and other benefits
  • Assist with benefit administration to include approval for enrollment, plan questions, open enrollment, and hours tracking for eligibility
  • Research and recommend potential technological solutions to enable people support
  • Handle colleague inquiries related to Proper policies and procedures, the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and the Proper handbook
  • Act as the primary custodian of manager and colleague engagement initiatives
  • Works independently and within a team on special nonrecurring and/or ongoing projects. Acts as project manager for special projects at the request of the Director of People & Culture
  • Manage workers' compensation policy and procedures including but not limited to colleague medical treatment assistance, submitting claims and employment information, reviewing accommodations, managing leaves, etc.
  • Manage the leave of absence process for all leaves covered by federal and state laws, the Proper handbook and the Collective Bargaining Agreement
  • Compile and submit reports for various purposes related to People & Culture and compliance
  • Create safety programming in partnership with various departments and People & Culture
  • Manage People & Culture programs that engage teams and enhance learning and cultural understanding. Review and revise programs based on the strategy of Proper such as ethos, offering social events, and creating a virtual version.
  • Work with People & Culture Director to maintain Proper's annual internal communication and training program calendar
  • Take on additional administrative responsibilities and other projects as needed
Qualification Standards


Education
Bachelor's degree in a HR-related field (Master's degree preferred)

Human Resources Certification(s) preferred


Experience
Minimum of 3 years of work experience in a varied HR role required

5+ years related administrative experience

Experience working with and implementing HR Information systems and other system platforms related to HR

Familiarity with payroll

Experience in hospitality industry preferred

Experience working in union environment preferred


Skills
Working knowledge of federal, state (California), and local laws (Los Angeles / Santa Monica)

Ability to speak and translate English and Spanish

Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills

Proficient in all programs of the Microsoft Office Suite

Excellent written, verbal and social communication skills

A passion for people and colleague experiences and teamwork

Willingness and ability to represent HR and Proper in a positive, enthusiastic, and cheerful manner, treating everyone with respect and every tas
