ANNUALLY

PROBATION:
All persons, including current City employees, selected from this position will be on probation for 6 months.


CLASS DESCRIPTION


A Towing Services Representative I interface with customers whose vehicles have been impounded by Baltimore City, verifies and processes documents and provides information to facilitate and expedite return, auction or disposal of vehicle.

The work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities.

Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work

a rotating shift including weekends and holidays.

Work is performed in an office setting where there are few hazardous conditions but where hostile and irate citizens may be encountered.

Work requires mínimal physical exertion.


SELECTION PROCESS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:
Have Graduated from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.


AND

EXPERIENCE:

Have one year of experience performing public contact work involving customer complaint and problem resolution including data entry or word processing.

KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS,
AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of customer service.
  • Knowledge of office practices, procedures and equipment.
  • Skill in handling irate or hostile customers effectively, tactfully and calmly.
  • Skill in exercising tact, diplomacy and sound judgement in stressful situations.
  • Skill in evaluating and comparing basic information on various documents for accuracy and consistency.
  • Ability to key on a PC terminal keyboard, with speed and accuracy, from diverse source documents and forms according to special or commonly accepted business formats.
  • Ability to understand, interpret and explain State laws and City ordinances, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to synthesize data from a variety of sources to determine applicability to specific procedures and regulations.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, City employees and coworkers.
  • Ability to research records manually or utilizing computer.
  • Ability to access information from various databases.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

NOTE:
