This Postdoctoral Research Associate is being recruited to work on an NSF-funded project examining the neurogenomic basis of species discrimination in darter fishes.

The postdoc will be responsible for conducting research (behavioral observations, transcriptomics analyses on brains, immunohistochemistry on brains, collecting animals from the field, writing manuscripts, animal husbandry, and DNA and RNA extraction).

Additionally, they will contribute to general lab maintenance, safety, supplies and systems administration, and being an engaged team member in the lab by attending lab meetings, relevant lectures and training sessions, and assisting other lab/community members.

Salary:
Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected hire's education and experience.


Required Education and Experience:

Appropriate PhD in neuroethology, behavioral neuroscience, or related field


Preferred Education and Experience:


  • Research experience in neuroethology, behavioral neuroscience, or a related field
  • Ability to organize and analyze large data sets
  • Ability to conduct population genetic analyses and interact with the highpowered computing clusters
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others

Responsibilities:

Research Experiments and Computational Analyses: Conduct sample collection, behavioral observations, bioinformatic and statistical analyses, writing manuscripts, animal husbandry, and DNA and RNA extraction.

Documentation:Maintain an accurate laboratory notebook, write manuscripts, present findings, and contribute to grant proposals.

Training:Train new personnel on lab procedures and animal husbandry.

Lab Duties:Lead the daily function and operation of the Moran lab including the purchasing of supplies, maintenance of a safe and productive physical and computational environment.

Other Duties:Perform other duties as assigned, which may include accompanying other lab members on field trips (ranging in length from in - 7 days).
