Description:

Under direct supervision, perform physical labor required to load and unload vehicles and move equipment, supplies, etc. The position reports directly to the Driver Sub-Foreperson, who reports to the Assistant Director for Transportation. When on a work assignment with a Heavy Driver, the Driver (Mover) will report to the Heavy Driver.


Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Assist Heavy Driver by loading, unloading and securing transportable items on vehicles; picking up and delivering freight, supplies, mail, equipment, etc.; checking driving routes and directing Heavy Driver in parking and/or docking vehicles.
  • Move equipment, furniture, scaffolding, rubbish, supplies, etc., utilizing electric, motorized, and/or handoperated moving equipment safely and securely, ensuring no damage to University personnel or property.
  • Assist the trades by performing unskilled labor such as delivering supplies and equipment, assisting with building demolition, and cleaning out debris for large objects.
  • Perform snow removal work by delivering and loading trucks with deicing salt and serving as "backup" for Grounds Workers and/or Heavy Drivers in performing snow removal. Drive University vehicles.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

***- High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Valid current driver's license as required by the State of Illinois.

  • Must have knowledge of the buildings and physical layout of the University, familiarity with the University's driving procedures, and knowledge of the State of Illinois Highway Safety Regulations.
  • A Driver (Mover) must be skilled in the use of motorized, electrical and hand operated moving equipment.
  • A Driver (Mover) must be able to safely perform heavy lifting (50 lbs. minimum), pushing and pulling, safely perform work requiring physical exertion in varied weather conditions, and learn the buildings, travel routes, and physical layout of the institution.
