Social Emotional Learning Interventionist

Purpose Statement


The job of Social Emotional Learning Interventionist is done for the purpose/s of providing a range of support and services that enhance the instructional program with specific responsibilities that advance the social and emotional development of students in school.

The job of Social Emotional Learning Interventionist is responsible for effecting positive social and emotional learning in students; providing referrals to families and/or students; and complying with mandated policies, regulations and/or procedures.

The goal is to build the students capacity to address social and emotional learning within the student population within a 3 tiered framework and services SEL.

This job reports to Assigned Administrator


Essential Functions


Collects, analyzes, and interprets behavior data for the purpose of ensuring students are provided with social and emotional learning opportunities.


Ensures students with social and emotional behavior difficulties are provided opportunities for the purpose of developing appropriate social skils in a structured setting.

Implements procedures and training materials for district staff for the purpose of enhancing programs for students and ensuring that program operations are in compliance with established guidelines.


Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality for the purpose of protecting all parties involved in social and emotional learning.


Models flexibility in implementing best learning practices for the purpose of supporting the well-being of all students through responsive work inside and outside the classroom.


Organizes physical space and resources in relationship to classroom mangement for the purpose of creating a positive, structured learning environment for all students.


Participates in a variety of meetings, workshops and committees such as PBIS for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and remaining knowledgeable with program guidelines.


Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Provides parents information for the purpose of updating them on possible behavior interventions for their child.

Supports workshops, training, in-service presentations, etc.

in classroom management techniques and other topics for the purpose of developing skills and establishing effective relationships with all students.


Supports teachers with the implementation of procedures and training materials for district staff involved with social and emotional learning for students for the purpose of enhancing programs for students and ensuring that program operations are in compliance with regulatory requirements.

Works with students to function effectively in classroom for the purpose of developing social/emotional skills.

Minimum Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities


SKILLS are required to perform single, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.

Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include:

adhering to safety practices and procedures; analyzing data; classifying data and/or information; physical restraint practices; de-escalation; planning and managing projects.


KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.

Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include:

Practicing positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) or (PBS); practicing cultural competency while working collaboratively with diverse groups and individuals.


ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather and/or collate data; and use basic, job-related equipment.

Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment using defined methods.

Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with similar types of data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment.

Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is limited.

Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include:
communicating with diverse groups; meeting deadlines and schedules; working extended hours; working with detailed information/data.
