THE POSITION:


Are you interested in keeping Pennsylvania buildings safe? The Department of General Services is looking for a dedicated Safety Inspector to complete our team.

This position gives you the opportunity to work within many different disciplines and specialties including fire and sprinkler system maintenance.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK:


  • In this role, you will be maintaining and inspecting all life safety equipment of the Department's managed and/or owned buildings, by responding to any and all fire, safety, or environmental situations that occur. You will have the opportunity to assist with fire extinguisher training, conduct safety evaluations and inspections, as well as conduct workman's compensation accident investigations.

Responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:

  • Inspecting and maintaining all fire and sprinkler equipment
  • Attending and providing fire and safety training
  • Maintaining Right to Know information
  • Conducting building safety and air quality inspections
  • Supervising and participating in HAZMAT abatement projects
  • Researching all applicable laws, codes, and regulations as it pertains life safety matters
  • Responding to all life safety emergencies
  • Preparing a daily activity report of all activities and fire alarm deficiencies to Fire and Safety Supervisory staff

Work Schedule and Additional Information:


  • Fulltime employment
  • Work hours are 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM, Monday
  • Friday, with 30minute lunch.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY:


QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:


  • Successful completion of the Safety Inspector Trainee program;
    or:
  • One year of experience inspecting commercial, industrial, healthcare or other buildings or structures, machines, apparatus, devices or equipment for compliance with applicable safety codes and regulations;
    or:
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Conditions of Employment:


  • You must possess a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.

Post Employment Requirements:


  • In this job you will be required to obtain valid certifications issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry as an Asbestos Supervisor, Asbestos Building Inspector, and Lead Risk Assessor within the probationary period.
  • In this job you will be required to obtain valid certification in 40
  • Hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Site Worker Initial Training from an accredited organization within the probationary period.
  • In this job you will be required to complete Permit Required Confined Space Entrant, Attendant and Supervisor Training within the probationary period.

Additional Requirements:


  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):


  • Two years experience inspecting fire alarm and sprinkler systems
  • Two years experience of safety training or inspections
