Schedule:
Hybrid, Monday to Friday (8:30am-5:00pm)


Summary:


This position is responsible for the development and coordination of the volunteer recruitment, management, and training program for Refugee and Immigrant Community Services volunteers.

The purpose of this position is to support RICS programming through the use of volunteers and may include providing direct instruction to program participants.

Individual accountabilities and work volume will be established through the development of annual Success Objectives within the framework outlined below.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide direct instruction as needed.
  • Work with RICS staff to build out and maintain infrastructure for volunteer management
  • Develop new volunteer initiatives as needed to complement RICS programming
  • Develops and coordinates the recruitment program for volunteers at Refugee and Immigrant Community Services
  • Oversee volunteer and intern recruitment campaigns, including generating and distributing recruitment materials with the direction of program staff
  • Foster relationships between staff, volunteers, and clients
  • Field all communication from those interested in volunteering and guide them through onboarding processes including training, background checks, required paperwork, and introduction to related program staff
  • Coordinates background checks and other necessary paperwork for new volunteers
  • Comply with RICS policies and procedures including but not limited to privacy and confidentiality considerations and appropriate professional boundaries in keeping with participant/volunteer services policies and procedures
  • Meet with program coordinators to plan and lead relevant volunteer trainings
  • Assists departmental staff with the recognition of volunteers and inkind donors
  • Maintain and update volunteer files and database
  • Ensure volunteer hours are recorded across RICS programming and report volunteer hours to DECM
  • Participates in Agency and departmental committees as assigned
  • Participates in program and operational planning and development
  • Other duties may be assigned

Education and Experience:


  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution of higher learning in social work, education, psychology, or related field required.
  • Minimum one (1) year of related experience is required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (K/S/A):


  • Previous experience working with volunteers is preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with individuals and groups, including but not limited to public speaking and presentation skills. Ability to multitask and maintain organization. Excellent attention to detail. Demonstrated experience interacting with diverse individuals and communities.
  • Access to reliable transportation required. This position involves inperson meetings with community partners in Chicago and the suburbs.
  • Excellent communication skills. Strong networker, convener, relationship builder and communicator with experience collaborating with diverse work teams and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive information possessing skills to handle situations in a professional and diplomatic manner.
  • A high degree of collaboration and emotional intelligence, selfmotivation, and analytical ability.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, Outlook/Exchange; Windows operating systems; and other software routinely used by Heartland Alliance.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to work independently and remain selfmotivated with mínimal direct supervision.
  • Strategic thought partnership and consultancy skills.
