    Position Summary


    Under the direction of the Project Manager, the Program Associate I will provide program support for Public Health Institute's Center for Wellness and Nutrition (PHI CWN) food access, nutrition, and wellness efforts, primarily, but not limited to, the Los Angeles (LA) County Grocery Voucher Program. PHI CWN's vision is for a healthy nation where wellness is achievable for all individuals and communities, and its mission is to build capacity and leadership in communities and institutions to make optimal health accessible for all. PHI CWN's work falls within the four primary areas of training, education, research and evaluation, and advocacy, all of which use a health equity framework to variously address the priority areas of increasing access to and consumption of healthier foods, with a focus on fruits and vegetables, decreasing consumption of unhealthy foods and beverages and increasing consumption of water, increasing physical activity, and preventing obesity and chronic diseases.

    The Program Associate I will support CWN Programs across various locations. Duties include development of project resources/materials, communications, and presentations, conducting data collection and pulling data reports, tracking project progress to goals, supporting and providing technical assistance (TA) to CBOs, providing select Spanish interpretation/ translation, supporting project logistics, and otherwise contributing to the project to support program goals.

    This position is hybrid (remote and in-person) and required to conduct regular travel in the US with the potential for travel outside the US. Occasional, pre-planned travel to Sacramento, CA (where the Center for Wellness & Nutrition is based) may also be needed.

    The Program Associate I must reside in the LA Region (Los Angeles County and surrounding counties), with preference given to those living in Los Angeles County and familiar with Los Angeles. The position is required to travel for up to 25% of the regular schedule.

    This is a regular full-time position.

    Full pay range for this position: $27.57 to $39.31 per hour. The typical hiring range for this position is from $27.57 (minimum) to $33.44 (midpoint) per hour. The starting wage is determined based on the candidate's knowledge, skills, experience, as well as budget availability.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    • As a project team member, implements activities in support of programs/projects, including, but not limited to, completion of work plan activities, development of program resources and project materials, communications and presentations, supporting project logistics, and contributing to drafting of workplans, budgets and reporting.
    • Leads selected training and technical assistance of community-based organizations.
    • Performs data collection, filing. cleaning data and generating reports in support of programming, utilizing data collected in Qualtrics, Survey Monkey, and other data collection platforms.
    • Provides technical assistant to CBOs with data collection, and triages questions independently, and elevating to the other team members as needed.
    • Communicates issues and feedback between CBOs and the project team.
    • Contributes to progress reports, narrative summaries, and other required documentation for deliverables and/or funder reports, as appropriate. This may include:
      • Data collection and cleaning
      • Follow up with CBOs for missing/incomplete data
      • Collection of qualitative data from CBOs, including quotes, stories, and other anecdotal reports from participants
    • Facilitates retail site visits, including and not limited to secret shopper visits and other incentive trouble shooting.
    • Manages food delivery programming and submissions to delivery vendors including pulling enrollment data, data cleaning based on vendor specifications, sending delivery communications to participants via text and email, and follow up with vendors when issues arise to achieve resolution.
    • Generally, provides English and Spanish bilingual services for work assignments and CWN related needs that:
      • Require a Spanish speaker and/or comprehension of Spanish language materials/documents
      • Require brief written notices, notes, or messaging, or other such communications in Spanish (example: texts; basic flyers; communications with Spanish speaking partners; meeting notes/reminders, )
      • Involve drafting personal talking points and presentations in Spanish
      • Require supporting development of culturally tailored materials and resources through review of such professionally translated documents for context, clarity and effectiveness, and appropriateness regarding characteristic language patterns and social references, practices, and expectations, as well as literacy
    • Under direction of Research and Evaluation Director, assistant Director and /or Research Scientists, support data and evaluation efforts across assigned programs.
    • Participates in regular CWN staff meetings, project team meetings, and other meetings as required.
    • Performs regular field visits throughout Los Angeles region, as well as occasional, pre-planned travel in the US, with the possibility for travel outside of the US when needed. Occasional, pre-planned travel to Sacramento, CA (where the Center for Wellness & Nutrition is based) when needed.
    • Travels for up to 25% of the regular schedule.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Two years of experience working directly with or supporting work with Community-Based Organizations and populations from diverse backgrounds in the areas of food security, nutrition, chronic disease prevention, public health, or related matters.
    • Bachelor's degree in a related field, or substitute with four additional years of relevant experience.

    Other Required Qualifications

    • English and Spanish bilingual skills in speaking, reading, and writing are required, along with cultural competence to understand, learn, accept, respect, and interact with the Spanish speaking populations served by CWN.
    • Ability to deliver training, communicate with partners and participants, create project resources and training materials, plan and develop presentations and meeting agendas, and perform brief and limited Spanish interpretation and/or translation of program materials.
    • Familiarity with development and drafting of workplans, budgets, and reports.
    • Demonstrated experience performing data collection, filing. cleaning data, and generating reports in support of programming, as well as utilizing data collected in Qualtrics, Survey Monkey, and other data collection platforms.
    • Must reside in the LA Region (Los Angeles and surrounding counties), with preference given to those living in Los Angeles County and/or familiar with Los Angeles.
    • Access to reliable transportation and the willingness to travel to various project locations as needed. Ability to travel approximately 25% of the time.
    • Training, presentation and/or facilitation skills, including virtual (e.g.: Zoom) and in-person training.
    • Quiet and dedicated work-from-home space for frequent Zoom meetings and computer-based work.
    • Ability to independently work a regular and consistent schedule in a remote work environment.
    • Access to the internet and ability to use PC computers and Microsoft 365 applications (e.g.: Office, Outlook, SharePoint, Teams, Project) and Zoom.
    • Familiarity with health equity focused community-based organizations in Los Angeles County. Knowledge of and respect for diverse cultures and appreciation of a variety of life experiences, including a commitment to racial and social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
    • An interest in addressing social determinants of health through healthy food and nutrition programs.
    • Ability to self-manage work tasks, troubleshoot, and find solutions to problems within defined duty parameters.
    • Excellent communication and organizational skills, as well as attention to detail.
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and use own judgement within defined parameters to interpret and carry out assigned activities.
    • Ability to be creative and resourceful; ability to be flexible in a rapidly changing and creative environment.
    • Self-motivated and takes initiative to problem solve or bring innovative ideas to the team.
    • Reliable and trustworthy.
    • Experience working on federally funded programs.

    LOCATION


    This position is currently hybrid (remote and in-person) located in the Los Angeles County region, CA. While the position is largely remote, regular travel for approximately 25% of the regular schedule is required to meet the needs of the program. Consideration will only be given to candidates residing in or near Los Angeles County, California.
