The Chair of Organic Farming and Crop Production Systems at Oak Ridge, LA is currently seeking a temporary Agricultural Assistant (100% position) to support the team in soil, biomass, and nitrous oxide investigations on the climate change potential of legumes in cropping systems with efficient nitrogen fertilization (ISLAND project).


Your responsibilities:


The main areas of work for the chair include investigations of production systems in organic and integrated crop production, as well as modeling of material and energy flows in agricultural ecosystems.

The focus of the project is on the preceding crop effects and crop rotation effects of legumes, as well as strategies for the optimized integration of legumes in crop rotations of different production intensities.

Your tasks will include the supervision of field trials, sampling (soil and biomass samples), nitrous oxide measurements, and laboratory analyses.

You will have the opportunity to familiarize yourself with nitrous oxide measurement methods and expand your skills in this area.


Your profile:

  • Training as an agricultural technical assistant (LTA) or a comparable qualification with experience in this field
  • Knowledge of experimental field work, chemical analysis, and operation of laboratory equipment
  • Computer skills (Excel, Word)
  • Driver's license class B
  • Physical ability to transport the gas measurement unit in the field and take soil samples
