Integrating with Browns ambitious strategic plans, the Library is a site of innovation that fuels intellectual creativity.Signature Library initiatives include the establishment of the Center for Library Exploration and Research to increase campus and community impact; the Racial Justice Project to assess and counteract the legacies of historical racism in library practice; the Digital Publications Initiative pioneering new approaches to born-digital scholarship; and a revisioned special collections program that is positioning the John Hay Library as a research destination and leader in reparative and community-based collecting.
We are seeking outstanding library professionals at all levels of the organization who are excited about advancing academic excellence at the highest level, and who will bring a wide array of backgrounds, experiences, and abilities to a scholarly community that is actively committed to being more diverse and inclusive.
As a leader in the Brown Librarys Scholarly Resources Division, the Director Of Resource Acquisitions provides leadership and management for the Librarys collection procurement and material processing operations to meet the academic needs of a broad and diverse campus community.
In addition, the incumbent serves as liaison to subject librarians, external vendors, and publishers, instructs staff in the use and application of ordering tools and services, and assists with the maintenance of acquisitions related data in the Librarys LSP (Library Services Platform).
The position oversees the operations and processes for ordering, receiving, invoicing, licensing and assessment of curricular and research materials and the documentation of workflows from approval plan profiles, order placements, and material receipt.
It also oversees the processing of invoices for payment through the Universitys finance system, resolves high level problems related to payment or vendor records, and coordinates the receipt and processing of incoming gifts.
The position currently supervises a unit of 4 paraprofessional staff and one professional leading Collection Assessment and Licensing; and reports to the AUL for Scholarly Resources.
Education and Experience
ALA-accredited masters degree in library or information science or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum 7 years of related experience in an academic library
Minimum of 5 years of leadership/supervisory experience
Excellent interpersonal, analytical, organizational, problem-solving, time management and communication skills.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity and understanding of the contributions a diverse workforce brings to the workplace.
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of library acquisitions processes including ordering, receiving, processing, invoicing and payments
Demonstrated knowledge of budgeting and accounting practices
Ability to use technology in creative ways to solve problems or facilitate workflows
Ability to establish priorities, direct, and measure work in a high-production setting
Experience with Ex Libris Alma/Primo preferred
