Assistant Director Decision Support

Position Summary
At Stony Brook Medicine, our Assistant Director of Decision Support is a valuable member of our Strategic Analytics team. The Assistant Director develops and audits cost data in our hospital Decision Support System. Our cost accounting data facilitates decision-making related to service line growth opportunities.

This position is a key resource to leadership and service line management, frequently working with others in Finance and clinical administrators.


Duties of an Assistant Director of Decision Support may include the following but are not limited to:

  • Manages the hospital's cost accounting system by creating processes and internal controls to maintain an effective system that is updated on a timely basis.
  • Responsible for the production, oversight and integration of cost allocation methodologies and associated statistics.
  • Leads, develops and enhances cost accounting functionality in the system.
  • Audits and reconciles DSS data to source systems and financial statements.
  • Assists in the development of dashboard visualizations, such as Tableau or Syntellis Business Intelligence Score Cards.
  • Provides support on data interpretation, variance analyses, trends and issues related to costing data.
  • Identifies system, process, and workflow issues and recommends process improvements that result in greater accuracy of data.
  • Routinely audits and validates published reports and the allocations of cost and other revenue for accuracy and completeness.
  • Develops standard reports and analyses used by the Strategic Analytics team.
  • Manages, supervises and trains staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications

Required:


  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting, Business, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years healthcare finance experience
  • Knowledge of healthcare cost accounting or hospital Institutional Cost Reports
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to collect, organize, synthesize and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Managerial experience.

Preferred:


  • Experience with hospital accounting, budgeting, analytics and planning, service line profitability or forecasting.
  • In depth knowledge of hospital cost accounting or hospital Institutional Cost Reporting.
  • In depth knowledge of hospital financial analysis, financial planning, strategic and business development.
  • Experience with integration and interfacing of data feeds from source systems to Hospital Decision Support/Cost Accounting Systems.
  • Ability to think strategically and understand operational systems that provide patient care.
  • Superior analytical and problemsolving skills.

  • Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen
  • Meet Regulatory Requirements for preemployment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
