Job Summary and Qualifications:


The Diet Clerk is responsible for the clerical aspects of preparation for patient meal service through accurate menu processing on the touch screen computer and assisting patients with menu selection over the phone.

Possesses excellent phone etiquette and customer service skills.


ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:


Menu line:

  • Ensures phones are turned off and on at the designated time periods
  • Runs meal counts and diet list to determine patient location and diet order
  • Reviews diet list and note patients with allergies, cultural and/or religious dietary limitations/requirements.
  • Answers Menu Line within a timely manner and utilizes excellent customer service skills to assist the customer with their needs and/or orders.

Patient menu dietary ordering:

  • Enter nonselect orders into the Dietary Menu Data system.
  • Assist customer with selections that are available to them based on their nutritional restrictions.
  • Cross references order with diet list print out, paying close attention to ensure ordered items do not conflict with patient allergies, physician orders, cultural and/or religious requirements.
  • Process Room Service customer orders including the patient and family initiated orders following standard procedures and time frames.

Patient documentation and accountability:

  • Patients who have not placed orders for food or are not on the nonselect list should be contacted and reminded that nutrition has not been arranged for them. Assist patients with selecting a food choice or document the patient's refusal of meal.
  • Diabetic patients who refuse nutrition should be reported to the nurse on staff or a dietitian.
  • Diet clerks will document all meals and nourishments' served to each patient for all meals.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient and employee (verbal, written & electronic) information

Required:
ServSafe Food Handler Certification or State Food Safety Certification.
