Job Summary:


The Payroll Manager will lead and oversee the overall administration of the department in the best interest of Emigrant Bank.

The Manager will oversee the systems and processes to ensure the integrity, compliance and accuracy of companywide payroll. This position will oversee/handle Multi-State payroll processing in a fast-paced growth environment. This role will support and manage the payroll team as they perform payroll duties in the most efficient manner.

This position will perform payroll accounting duties, resolve tax issues, serve as a key contact in payroll audits and serve as the project manager when needed.

This Manager must be well versed in state wage and hour payroll tax requirements.


Job Specific Responsibilities and Duties:


  • Manage payroll administration through two (2) direct reports including salaries, benefits, garnishments, deductions, taxes, third party payments, time and attendance and expense reports
  • Oversee accuracy of all payroll transactions biweekly, quarterly, and annually
  • Attend weekly payroll, HR, and employment meetings
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws and bank and other internal policies
  • Supervise, coach, and evaluate payroll team members
  • Manage payroll tax in a multistate environment
  • Perform payroll accounting duties and collaborate with appropriate accounting teams
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports
  • Develop department goals, objectives, and systems
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable state and federal wage and hour laws
  • Serve as key contact and process payroll accounting duties including various journal entries, account reconciliation and provide general ledger support
  • Manage payroll tax policies, procedures, duties, issues and recordkeeping
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and controls, as well as compliance with external laws and regulatory guidance
  • Maintain knowledge and responsibility of industry trends, and compliance with federal, state, and local legislation
  • Assist benefits with managing the 401K, pension data, and reports
  • Assist with the Human Resources annual budget
  • Set up and close entities in ADP with city, state and federal agencies as needed
  • Oversee annual year end payroll, processing and reconciliation
  • Lead payroll projects and conversions.

Qualifications:


  • Proven experience as a payroll manager or similar role
  • Experience with payroll accounting procedures and duties
  • Experience working with payroll compliance and audit
  • Current knowledge of payroll procedures and related laws
  • Excellent understanding of multilocation payroll and taxes
  • Familiarity with payroll software/ HRIS (e.g. SAP, ADP, Kronos) and MS Office (especially Excel)
  • A keen eye for detail
  • An analytical mind and accurate calculation skills
  • Outstanding communication skills (written and oral)
  • Organizational and leadership skills
  • BS/BA in Business Administration, Accounting, Human Resources or related field
  • At least 510 years of experience managing a Payroll team
  • EV6 experience is a plus
