The Berlin Fire Department was founded in 1851, making it the oldest professional fire department in Germany.

With around 5,000 employees and 35 professional fire stations, it is also the largest professional fire department in the country.

Together with approximately 1,500 members of the 59 volunteer fire departments in Berlin, the employees of the Berlin Fire Department give their best every day to protect the city and its people.

The Operations Department is responsible for all operational emergency services of the Berlin Fire Department and is therefore responsible for the core task of providing assistance to citizens.

It consists of the fire and rescue stations and volunteer fire departments of the Berlin Fire Department, with more than 3,500 full-time and around 1,500 volunteer emergency personnel.

To cope with and ensure emergency services, the department has seven operational areas, three departments, and a central office management in the rear area.
