The staff office consists of the Coordination Tasks department, Press and Public Relations (K/ÖA), the Crisis Management and Civil Emergency Preparedness department (KM/ZN), and the Strategic Controlling and Risk Management department.

The employees of the K/ÖA department support the agency's management in their steering function and in all matters of press and public relations for the Federal Office.

Coordination tasks also include operational emergency management and the strategic direction of IT security at BALM, which is overseen by the IT security officer.
