    Description

    The Instructional Designer at the Graduate School of Education and Psychology contributes to GSEP's strategic vision for technology and learning. This position acts as a vital member of GSEP's teaching and learning community by working with the graduate school internal Information Technology staff to develop instructional faculty development plans, online instructional design, and research advances in course development technologies.

    Duties

  • Collaborate with faculty to design, build and maintain online courses in the LMS. Align course objectives, assignments and rubrics with adopted PLO's and contribute to the assessment process. Provide research-based instructional design consultation to faculty from ideation to implementation, focusing on innovative learning experiences to increase learning engagement.
  • Collaborate with VIT, GSEP colleagues and departments to support virtual/hybrid events. Focuses on contributing to planning, facilitating, and technological set up the learning environments.
  • Provide consultation to faculty in the areas of acquisition and production of course materials, such as creating/editing relevant videos and media pieces and curating library resources, etc. Review courses for accessibility. Effectively manage multiple projects and courses by prioritizing tasks based on high-demand and need. Explore new technologies, develop documentation, conduct orientation and training events, create media and learning objects, and analyze data from learning tools to generate reports on usage and effectiveness. Work collaboratively with the virtual initiatives team and other technical groups and instructional teams.
  • Research, evaluate, and implement new learning technology products. Review periodicals, journals, and other sources of information to keep abreast of new developments in technologies to meet evolving teaching and learning demands. Attend training as needed to maintain a high level of technical competence. Provide timely and complete project status reports to the supervisor as requested.

    Skills and Qualifications

    Required: Bachelor's degree in education (learning technologies, educational technology, or instructional design), information technology, computer science, business, or other related field; courses in technology, education, graphic or information design; certification in computer applications. Requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant IT work experience, Instructional Design experience, and working with a LMS. Demonstrates working knowledge of basic hardware and software products and problem-solving/troubleshooting skills. Advanced knowledge of working with computers and applications in a networked environment; knowledge working with Microsoft Office applications; file conversion, LMS (Learning Management Systems) Adobe Creative Suite, Camtasia, Snagit, HTML and/or HTML editors; Website administration; graphic design software and graphic preparation for various delivery (Web, PowerPoint, etc.); digitization of materials (graphic and text scanning, slide scanning, etc.); knowledge of pedagogical theory, tips and techniques using technology, and learning management systems. Experience designing and developing Web-based instructional resources which incorporate graphics, audio, and video. Adobe Creative Suite, Google Suite and MS Office, and MAC and PC proficiency are required.

    Preferred: Masters Degree preferred. Experience training end users in hardware or software in an academic setting. Record of innovation and creativity in identifying and integrating technological solutions to pedagogical needs. Knowledge of widely used and emerging hardware, software, applications, resources and techniques within an academic environment. Evidence of ability to generate faculty enthusiasm for and engagement in the use of new technologies for teaching. Experience supporting learning management systems and other tools widely used for teaching, such as Sakai. Experience with Web authoring tools, Web-based collaboration environments, multimedia tools, presentation software, streaming video and learning management systems. Experience designing and developing Web-based instructional resources which incorporate graphics, audio, and video.

    This is a Regular, Exempt, 40 hour per week position with multiple openings.

    Expected Pay Range: $66,560 - $70,000 per year
