Introduction:

The Adjudication Lead Worker will work in the Unemployment Insurance (UI) Division of the Department of Workforce Development (DWD). This position will work a blend of remote and in-office work at our Appleton Benefits Center.


Position Summary:


  • Provide technical assistance to staff
  • Assist management with coordination of adjudication center activities
  • Train adjudication staff
  • Assist management in the development and implementation of performance enhancement plans for adjudicators
  • Provide UI program information to customers
  • Investigate benefit eligibility issues

Salary Information:

Pay will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan in effect at the time of appointment. Starting pay may vary for current state employees.


Job Details:


This position may be allowed to work remotely in Wisconsin most of the time but will need to report in person to their assigned office location in Appleton on a weekly basis per business needs, sometimes on short notice.

High speed internet access is required to meet the needs of remote work.

A 12-month probationary period will be required. The classification title for this position is Unemployment Benefit Specialist - Advanced (schedule 12, range 63). This position is not represented in a collective bargaining unit and is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act.


Finalists for this position may be required to allow DWD to conduct a background check or other checks to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.


Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a US citizen or national or a lawful permanent resident) at the time of appointment.

DWD does not sponsor visas and is not an eligible OPT employer for those with F1 visas. This is not a contract position.

Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant being able to prove valid status to work in the United States.

Qualifications:

You will
need to have experience in:


  • Adjudicating Unemployment Insurance claims for Wisconsin or another state.
  • Experience with Unemployment specific systems (i.e., Mainframe, UIBNET, SUITES, and NICE InContact)
  • Managing time to complete multiple projects with competing deadlines
  • Demonstrating good judgement in overcoming challenges, solving problems, and adapting to changes
  • Explaining technical/program information verbally and in writing to nonexperts from a variety of backgrounds
It would also be
nice to have training and/or experience in any of the following:

  • Experience and/or training in performing duties as a senior adjudicator or resolving complex and specialized Unemployment Insurance (UI) eligibility issues, i.e.
, working with topics such as:

educational employment, employment status, excluded employment, family corporations, self-employment, deductible income, commission sales, back pay, sick pay, illegal alien, or qualifying conditions.


  • Leadership experience, either formal or informal (e.g., training, coaching, mentoring, etc.)
  • Collaborating with team members to accomplish a goal (e.g., developing training, participating in a work group, working on a continuous improvement initiative or something similar)
