Maintenance Assistant
The Maintenance Assistant oversees general maintenance of the facility. The Maintenance Assistant will troubleshoot problem areas and with approval will contact necessary vendors if more support is required.

This position communicates on a regular basis with the Administrator who is responsible for ensuring that the facility physical plant equipment is functioning properly.

He/she provides input as to how the facility is operating, from a physical plant maintenance standpoint.

Maintenance Assistant Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Work with mínimal supervision; be able to assess problems quickly.
Develop an understanding of safety principles and practice these principles in the work place; have an awareness of safety principles as it relates to the longterm care industry
Be able to organize multiple tasks at the same time
Be available for facility inspection tours and be able to meet with Village inspectors
Must perform snow and ice removal as directed
Must perform minor tile, wallpaper, painting, and drywall repairs
Repair and replace door and window hardware
Maintain all lighting fixture
Repair furniture
Maintain and repair pumps
Perform all preventative maintenance repairs
Maintain accurate parts and tool inventories
Participate in training safety to new hires during general orientation training sessions
Maintain accurate documentation as directed
Maintain and repair fire alarm system and nurse call system
May be required to assist at other facilities, as directed by the Administrator or designee
Troubleshoot and repair all kitchen equipment
Other duties as assigned

Maintenance Assistant Education and Experience Requirements:

High School Diploma or GED
The ability to make basic carpentry repairs
Knowledgeable about basic electricity and how to safely make electrical repairs.
Knowledgeable about basic plumbing and be able to make plumbing repairs
Knowledgeable about basic HVAC equipment is desired
The ability to make basic carpentry repairs

Maintenance Assistant Physical Demands**:

Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday
Must be able to push, pull move and/or lift a minimum of 50 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet
May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations
Must be able to walk, utilize a ladder, and work on the facility roof.
Must be able to endure all normal local weather conditions.
Must be able to utilize both hands to accomplish tasks; have adequate sight and hearing to avoid hazardous situations.
