The Global Health Program (GHP) is a newer interdisciplinary undergraduate and master degree program at UC San Diego, beginning in Fall 2014.

It is a field of study directly concerned with achieving equity in health for people worldwide.

The program has faculty participation from the Divisions of Social Sciences, Biological Sciences, Arts & Humanities, the School of Medicine, the Rady School of Management, and the Scripps Institution of Oceanography.

The Global Health Program is administered through the Department of Anthropology and currently serves a population of over 300+ majors and over 200+ minors.

In conjunction with the Administrative Officer and other Student Affair Officer, this position is responsible for all advising aspects and assist with the programmatic aspects of the Global Health Program and the Anthropology Undergraduate Program


Some of the responsibilities may include the following: Academic Advising; manage undergraduate VAC system, coordinates all aspects of the program course, instructor and teaching assistant evaluations,course selection and scheduling; knowledge of campus resources for student referral; Field Experience Development and tracking; Outreach and Community Visibility through events or through social media; Coordinate quarterly and annual events on various topics relating to student interests; responsible for Triton & Transfer Triton Day; assist with hiring of TAs and Lecturers, perform basic fiscal administration tasks.

and suggest recommendations for short-term and long-term goals and objectives for the program. Will provide training and guidance to staff and student assistants within the Global Health Program.

Applies professional Student Services concepts. Provides varied student services to students, faculty, and department / school / college management. Works on moderately complex issues. Receives assistance on more complex issues.

  • Overtime and weekends may be required. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required. Reliable transportation needed for attendance at colleges, fairs, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Skill and experience in effective oneonone counseling, advising, and listening. Ability to evaluate students needs, and facilitate student decisionmaking. Knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
  • Skills in service orientation, organization, active listening, and critical thinking. Skill and experience in effective and accurate counseling, advising, and listening. Ability to evaluate students needs, and facilitate student decisionmaking. This skill applies to both a one on one setting, and a group setting such as orientation of new students.
  • Ability to multitask; verbal and written communication skills. Ability to present detailed and complex information clearly through both written and oral communication. Ability to work in a very busy interactive environment with frequent interruptions and to perform tasks accurately and quickly. Skill in presenting information about courses, curricula, programs, and career options to small and large groups of people in an organized comprehensive manner.
  • Ability to organize records and extract data from a variety of sources. Ability to synthesize, evaluate, and analyze information for program reports. Demonstrated ability in analyzing and evaluating student data and academic records.
  • Ability to coordinate program events, workshops, new student orientations etc. with appropriate campus departments, faculty, offices, and organizations.
  • Skill in independently organizing and prioritizing work to meet deadlines while working in an environment with frequent interruptions. Ability to coordinate the curriculum, policies, and procedures of an interdisciplinary program with 12 affiliated departments and programs. Ability to handle confidential material, and maintain strict confidentiality.
