Duties:


  • The duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Operates, maintains, modifies, and repairs three boilers that supply 180 degree Fahrenheit water 24/7, throughout the entire facility. Independently fires up boilers and takes boilers off-line.
  • Inspects boilers and auxiliary equipment for operation, inspects and adjusts equipment controls, replaces or modifies major/minor parts, components, or entire systems as required.
  • Monitors, adjusts, and controls phases of the boiler plant operation to achieve efficient combustion levels and compliance with air pollution laws or regulations.
  • Operates, installs, troubleshoots, repairs, and adjusts controls systems, as well as the facility's computerized Building Automation System (BAS).
  • Operates, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs two 150ton air cooled chillers that provide 42degree chilled water for cooling lab, High Security building and walkin growth rooms or chambers.
- installs, recognizes the cause of faulty equipment, repair, modify and relocate equipment on various special purpose air conditioning units and systems that are frequently modified.

  • Inspects and monitors the chiller operations, temperatures, and generated alarms on a daily basis, and records all data in the chiller logbook.
  • Operates, maintains, tests, alters, and assists in the major repairs of NCAPP's emergency power generating systems.
  • Operates, inspects, and maintains the BSL3AG microwave wastewater sterilization system that was designed exclusively to perform preprogrammed, thermal deactivation of biological waste.

Requirements:


Conditions of Employment:


  • You must be a US Citizen or US National.
  • Individuals who were born male after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
  • Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
  • Successful completion of oneyear probationary period, unless previously served.
  • Direct Deposit: Per Public Law all Federal employees are required to have federal payments made by direct deposit to their financial institution.
  • The employee may be required to work weekends and holidays when necessary.
  • Oncall for emergencies, such as power outages, heating system breakdowns, chiller malfunctions, etc; and must carry a pager or cell phone when assigned oncall duty status.
  • The incumbent may be required to operate a forklift occasionally to transfer equipment and materials.
  • The incumbent exerts moderately heavy physical effort, as the work requires considerable standing, stooping, climbing, kneeling, and bending for long periods of time.
  • Works from ladders, scaffolds, safety harnesses, platforms, rooftops, up to a height of 30 feet, and the work may be in hardtoreach places, high containment locations, and hot spaces such as mechanical rooms or attics.
  • Must be able to lift, push, or carry materials up to 100 pounds.
  • The incumbent is required to possess excellent visual and hearing capabilities.
  • The incumbent is exposed to the danger of boiler burst, refrigerant leaks, carbon monoxide poisoning, scalds, pesticides, and gas, oil, and sulfur fumes.
  • The incumbent must work at heights of up to 30 feet from ladders, scaffolds, HEPA filter balconies, and sometimes in awkward, cramped conditions to avoid hitting his/her head.
  • Work in the containment zones will require specialized clothing and showering when leaving the work space.
  • Work may be in an area defined by OSHA as confined space and requires specialized training.
