Under the direction of the Office Manager, the PSI Assistant proofreads Pre-Sentence Investigation (PSI) reports and collects fees. This position is covered under the Circuit Court Employee Handbook. This is an employee-at-will position.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Responsible for proofreading and correcting all Pre-Sentence Investigation (PSI) reports including looking for mistyped words, grammatical errors and verifying information contained in the report is accurate.
  • Organizes reports based on filing dates once supervisor reviews and signs documents.
  • Copies PSI's along with all essential additional information and distributes to Defense Attorney, Prosecutor's Office and Court Copy.
  • Fulfills requests from other departments for copies of the PSI.
  • Compiles monthly report totals of the number of PSIs conducted, distributing report to Office Manager and Writers.
  • Confirms information gained through the defendant and outside sources including the verification of dates and criminal history.
  • Performs fee clerk duties including collecting payments from defendants, assessing accounts and balancing cash drawer.
  • Accepts credit card payments over the telephone.
  • Answers questions regarding fees.
  • Makes daily bank deposits.
  • Resource person for department interns.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned, including overtime as required.

REQUIREMENTS:


  • High School Diploma or GED and one year experience in proofreading, knowledge of Criminal Justice System and bank/cashier/teller experience
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office and other job related computer software programs (Odyssey and Informer)
  • Significant knowledge of grammar and reading copy looking for mistakes, proofreading
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines and adhere to format report processes
  • Ability to accurately receipt monies and make change
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail oriented and strong organization skills
  • Strong time management skills
  • Ability to use various office equipment including, but not limited to computer, printer, scanner, copier and calculator

DIFFICULTY OF WORK:


The PSI Assistant performs work that is moderately complex, relatively standardized tasks, when beginning, proofreading and filing pre-sentence investigation (PSI) reports.


RESPONSIBILITY:


The PSI Assistant performs a variety of standardized tasks when copying PSI reports and creating monthly report totals regarding the number of PSIs conducted.

Work is reviewed upon completion and requires some analysis when balancing the cash drawer and collecting fees.


PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:


The PSI Assistant maintains frequent contact with other County employees, attorneys and the general public regarding fees and PSI reports.


WORKING CONDITIONS:


The PSI Assistant performs work in a standard office environment with the ability to walk to various downtown offices and lift files for filing daily, with some additional lifting up to twenty pounds, some bending and kneeling with frequent pushing and/or pulling loads.

8:00 am - 4:30 pm, 37.5 hours; overtime as required
