TITLE:
Library Assistant
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Assist students and staff with the use of the library. Check-in and check-out books. Locate, repair, maintain, and shelve books. Process new books and materials. Answer questions regarding the use of library resources. Assist with audiovisual equipment as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education and/or experience equivalent to a High School Diploma or GED
- One (1) year of previous related experience
- State of Arizona Identity Verified (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist students and staff in locating and checking out books and other library materials.
- Maintain library collection by sorting, shelving books and materials on reading shelves, repairing materials and keeping area clean and orderly.
- Catalog and prepare new materials.
- Maintain library files and record on patron database by adding, deleting and changing records.
- Order library cards and print notices.
- Prepare overdue book information and reminder notices.
- Prepare billing and collect fees for lost and damaged materials.
- Monitor behavior of students.
- Assist with operation of audiovisual and computer equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
- Knowledge of principles, practices and methods of libraries
- Knowledge of Dewey decimal system
- Knowledge of circulation
- Knowledge of library filing systems
- Skill in repairing books
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
WORKING CONDITIONS:
General office setting
High volume of public contact
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Lift, move or carry up to 25 pounds of books, materials or supplies
Repetitive motion and eye strain through extensive utilization of computer hardware and software
