GENERAL SUMMARY
GAHHS security guards are tasked with ensuring the safety for patients, visitors, and employees while on the GAHHS campus.

Security Guards are also responsible for carrying out loss prevention tactics as well as proactive approaches of ensuring a campus free of criminal incidents.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Greets and interacts with patients and other guests in a cordial manner.
  • Answers telephone courteously and in a friendly manner. Personal phone calls are kept to a minimum.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Participates in the established Patient Safety Program.
  • Assists with training new employees.
  • Commitment to the mission and vision of GAHHS as well as individual department objectives as demonstrated by the employee's actions.

  • Performs other duties/tasks outside of the immediate security arena (i.e. snow/ice removal, helicopter arrival/departure).

  • Perform Life Safety responsibilities as assigned.
  • Proficient in moderate computer skills with ability to complete incident reports.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Typical Physical Demands
Requires full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity with eye/hand coordination. Frequent walking, bending, sitting, and standing for extended periods of time. Job requires lifting.

Light effort - approximately 15 lbs. Under 100 lbs.
Medium effort - approximately 35 lbs. 100 to 300 lbs.
Heavy effort - approximately 60 lbs. Over 300 lbs.

Physical strength to perform the following lifting tasks:

  • Floor to waist
  • 50 pounds
  • 14" to waist 60 pounds
  • Waist to shoulder 35 pounds
  • Shoulder to overhead 20 pounds
  • Carry 50 pounds for 30 feet
  • Push 40 pounds/force for 30 feet
  • Pull 40 pounds/force for 30 feet
Fully mobility on steps, ladders, and at heights. Visual and hearing acuity within normal range with/without corrective devices.

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED


  • High School diploma or equivalency
  • Eighteen years of age or older
  • Must have a valid Illinois driver's license
  • Must have a valid Illinois Firearm Owner's Identification Card (F.O.I.D.) or have the ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire date. - Illinois Concealed Carry Permit is preferred.
  • Must have a valid Illinois Permanent Employee Registration Card (PERC Card) or have the ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire date.
  • Must be able to successfully complete/pass the assigned Taser, Handcuffing, & O.C. training within 6 months of hire and complete refresher training annually.
  • Must obtain training certificate for M.A.C.H. Control Tactics within 6 months of hire date.
  • Must obtain IAHHS Basic Certificate within 12 months of hire. (Persons with an Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board certificate are exempt.)
  • Must attend or complete mental health/behavioral health training within 6 months of hire. Employee must complete refresher training annually either through on-line or in-person means.
  • Must obtain CPR/AED training within 6 months of hire.
  • Must be capable of keeping all necessary certification and training up to date.
