Under general supervision, performs Electrodiagnostic studies of the sensory and motor nerves in the arms and legs of patients at Clearway Pain Solutions.

The technician will utilize formal training in NCV studies, including sensory and motor NCV's, f-wave studies, H-reflex studies, repetitive stimulation techniques, and evoked potentials including somatosensory, brainstem audio, and visual.

Once the studies are complete, the technician will generate written reports with the Electrodiagnostic machines and enter them into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) in a timely fashion.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reviews available medical records (either provided by the patient (i

e:
referrals) or what is available in the EMR).

  • Assists with patient exams, procedures and collection of specimens as assigned.
  • Retrieves laboratory and radiology test results and instructs patients regarding medications and treatment per physician's instructions.
  • Communicates/explains to patients regarding purpose of the study and assists in answering questions as related to studies and within the scope of their practice.
  • Performs nerve conduction studies related to patients' neurological systems and medical condition.
  • Operates electromyography equipment to test and measure the electrical activity of nerves seen in neuromuscular disorders, to determine the conduction of velocity and latency times of peripheral motor and sensory nerves; and to assist physician in performing the more advanced electromyography techniques on muscles utilized in specific musculoskeletal and neurological conditions.
  • Prepares patients for examination and treatment and documents chief complaints. Confers/obtains patient histories and vital signs and records accurately in the Electronic Medical Record. Assists patients with medical forms, as necessary.
  • Assists patients by providing them with support in changing into gowns and putting away their clothes in safe places.
  • Prepares patients for electromyography procedure; applies electrodes to proper position on the body and applies gels on patients' skins and ensure that suitable electrodes are placed on predetermined measured positions.
  • Attaches electrodes to electrode cables and connect them to EMG instruments, along with selecting nerve conduction modes.
  • Monitors responses on oscilloscopes and press buttons to record nerve conduction velocities.
  • Measures and records time and distance between stimulation and response, and calculates the electrical impulses present in peripheral nerves.
  • Computes and records graphic data in accordance with established procedures; analyzes and calculates results of tests and prepare preliminary report of findings.
  • Utilize proper medical documentation as related to patient and completes all studies in a timely fashion, routinely by close of business.
  • Calibrates, maintains and cleans equipment in accordance with standardized procedures. Stocks/orders supplies for EMG procedures.
  • Travels to multiple offices where Electrodiagnostic testing is provided.
  • Maintains awareness of the schedule, which may change on a daily or weekly basis, based on the Company's business and/or operations demands.
  • As time permits, assists in building the EMG/NCV schedules and improves patient show rate. Call ahead to patients to ensure they come in for their study (only canceling/rescheduling patient appointments with supervisor approval).
  • Responds to incoming phone calls and refers if necessary. Returns patient calls in a timely manner.
  • Participate in staff development and educational activities.
  • Attend required meetings and participate in committees as requested.
  • Maintain and Exercise strictest patient confidentiality in all areas, abiding by HIPAA rules and regulations.
  • Creates and maintains a positive atmosphere of customer service, teamwork, mutual respect, professionalism and accountability at all times.
  • Adheres to Infection Control, Safety and OSHA standards as specified by State, and Company standards.
  • Maintains knowledge of, and complies with established State, Company and any other applicable policies and procedures.
  • Participates in and completed all required trainings and inservices.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Six (6) months of formal training in Electrodiagnostic technology
  • EMG/NCV studies, OR an equivalent combination of education or experience.
  • Must have knowledge of Internet and Microsoft Office software (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook).
  • Must have a strong proficiency in using electrodiagnostic technologies.
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, including exceptional customer service.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with doctors, clinical staff, other coworkers and the public.
