00JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations, and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.
  • The selected Management Auditor will:
  • Examine, analyze, reconcile and interpret expense reports, invoices, communications and prepare reports.
  • Utilizing QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel to maintain ledgers/ journals and produce reports
  • Review specific expenditures for compliance with applicable policies, procedures, guidelines and standards while checking for accuracy and conformance with budged amounts and coding
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliation for specifics account(s)
  • Produce management reports, budgetary reports offering recommendations and for general management information. Act as a liaison with Fiscal Accountability Unit on a variety of fiscal matters and also, have the ability to discuss issues in a professional manner in order to arrive at a resolution.
  • Perform difficult and highly responsible research work related to accounting; and prepare internal reports indicating all discrepancies and prepare a comment sheet noting all discrepancies and the corrective action taken.

  • Minimum Qualifications1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, accredited by regional, national, professional or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S.
Secretary of Education and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in accounting, including one course each in: advanced accounting, auditing, and cost accounting; and one of the following:

(A) one year of full-time satisfactory experience in management auditing, financial auditing, and/or information technology (IT) auditing; or
(B) a valid Certified Public Accountant license issued by the New York State Education Department; or
(C) a valid Certified Internal Auditor certificate issued by the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA); or

  • A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to "1" above.

Education and/or experience may be substituted as follows:
(A) two years of full-time satisfactory experience in financial or managerial accounting may be substituted for the one year of experience described in "1(A)" above;
(B) undergraduate or graduate credits from an accredited college or university, accredited by regional, national, professional or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in management, computer science, public administration, and/or business administration may be substituted for up to 9 semester credits in accounting, on a credit for credit basis.

To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level II individuals must have, in addition to meeting the minimum requirements, at least one year of experience as a Management Auditor - Assignment I or at least two years of experience in management auditing, financial auditing, and/or information technology (IT) auditing.


Preferred SkillsMust have a baccalaureate degree with at least 15 credits in Accounting including Advanced Accounting, Auditing and Cost Accounting and also have knowledge or experience of using QuickBooks and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint & Access).

Driver's License.- Residency RequirementNew York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.

However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
