Responsibilities:


Under the general supervision of the Operations Manager, Shift Supervisor or designee, this position performs all duties and responsibilities related to the day-to-day protection and security of Southcoast Health System (SHS) and Southcoast Hospitals Group (SHG) assets and information as well as the safety of all persons on hospital/SHS property.

The incumbent Officer proactively guards against fire, theft, vandalism and unauthorized entry to SHG grounds and/or buildings while controlling access points.

This position could have additional responsibilities assigned at the direction of department leadership. Public Safety Officer II
- s will be cross-trained and eligible to work at other SHG locations as needed.


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required, associate
- s degree preferred.

  • Prior military, security, corrections, police or relevant experience a plus.
  • State Special Police Officer (SSPO) designation obtained after completion of an approved Reserve Intermittent or Full Time Police Academy certified by the Massachusetts Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC); or New Bedford Special Police Officer designation and completion of approved annual course training/competency; or completion of Certified Advanced Healthcare Security Officer (CAHSO) through the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS).
  • At least 8 months experience as a Public Safety Officer I at Southcoast Health.
  • A valid Driver
- s License is required.

  • Must have, or have the ability to obtain within a six month to oneyear period, a Massachusetts Fire Arms Identification Card, and License to Carry Firearms (Pistol Permit).
  • Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) De-Escalation Training; OC Pepper (OCAT), Handcuffing (PATH), Baton (PPBT) education and training required within 120 days of hire.
  • Is eligible to obtain appointment as a special police officer in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts under MGL c.22C Section 63 or as a New Bedford Special Police Officer under city/NBPD requirements.
  • Completion of Certified Advanced Healthcare Security Officer (CAHSO) through the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) within one year of hire or promotion from Public Safety Officer I.
  • Must be fully vaccinated against seasonal Influenza and the COVID 19 virus or to be exempt from the requirement for medical or personal reasons by signing a statement certifying you are choosing to be exempt from vaccination once hired.

Pay Range:
USD $ USD $27.50 /Hr.
