The Lead Paralegal will provide support for the Center's immigration practice, in connection with the Center's work serving detained immigrant youth.


Responsibilities

  • Under attorney supervision, screen unaccompanied children (UCs) in Office of Refugee Resettlement custody and provide them with legal orientations including Know Your Rights trainings and full screenings for immigration relief
  • Serve as main point of contact with federally contracted Office of Refugee Resettlement shelters, with responsibility for scheduling and managing Know Your Rights trainings, legal screenings and other visit plans, and working with Supervising and Staff Attorneys to equitably distribute workload for other paralegals
  • Under attorney supervision, advocate with shelters as necessary to ensure rights of detained UCs
  • Manage complex government and foundation grants
  • Maintain databases and monitor grant compliance in timely manner, including reviewing complete and accurate data submissions by other paralegals
  • Provide interpretation and translation services to attorneys and other service providers at The Door
  • Assist with systemic advocacy and media outreach by collecting timesensitive information outside the standard data collected
  • Come up with and implement protocols, templates, and systems for organizing, streamlining, and prioritizing all aspects of work, taking initiative to propose these solutions to emergent and recurring issues
  • Facilitate internal and external referrals to legal services providers in other geographic regions and to local and remote education, health care, and other services
  • Manage volunteers and undergraduate interns
  • Perform additional functions and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications and Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2 years of paralegal or comparable experience
  • Experience working with youth and/or detained immigrant populations
  • Experience with Salesforce preferred
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organizational, time management and record keeping skills
  • Strong database and computer skills
  • Superior interpersonal skills
  • Professional proficiency in Spanish required
  • You are willing to be an advocate for your program, participants and community

Work Schedule:
Full time, Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm or 10:00 am - 5:00 pm, 35 hours per week


Salary:
$54,500 to $60,000 - commensurate with experience, plus a generous benefits package, which included 1199 union medical, dental & vision benefits in addition to generous paid time off.


We are currently offering a hybrid work schedule.
