Description

The Manager, Cloud Strategy and Automation will be responsible for leading a team that drives innovation and continual improvement for the university's Cloud, DevOps, App Life Cycle Management, and Quality Assurance operations throughout the product development process.

The Manager will be critical to enabling the university's transition to a cloud-first strategy.

They will lead a team of IT professionals who collaborate with the ITS Infrastructure Services team to ensure seamless integration of existing systems with cloud-first tools and processes optimized for performance, reliability, and security.

Additionally, this leader will oversee the university's shift toward DevOps practices.

This role will ensure that the Cloud strategy is aligned with the broader IT strategy and will be responsible for leading strategic innovation within DevOps, ALM and QA for product development.

This role will drive continuous improvement of IT operations and software development processes across the university.

Leveraging a high level of expertise in Cloud, DevOps, ALM, and QA principles, practices, and tools, the Manager will be the primary point of contact with cross-functional teams and will drive innovative solutions to optimize IT operations and enable efficient, reliable software delivery.

The Manager, Cloud Strategy and Automation will positively impact UCLA's operations and culture by optimizing software and product development in service of the university's academic mission.

This team member will advance the University's mission by delivering exceptional information technology services comprehensively and consistently across faculty, staff, and students.

Salary & Compensation

  • UCLA provides a full pay range. Qualifications

  • 7+ years experience working in one or more of the following fields: DevOps, cloud, product management, information technology, IT service management, or related field. (required)
  • 2 years experience leading teams in a management or leadership role, particularly in a fastpaced, serviceoriented environment. (required)
  • Significant experience in agile development methods, including Scrum, as evidenced by a track record of successful project management, team leadership, and product development in agile environments. (required)
  • Extensive experience with version control systems (e.g., Git), build automation tools (e.g., Jenkins), containerization (e.g., Docker), and configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible). (required)
  • Extensive successful experience in managing cloud infrastructure, including AWS or Azure cloud platforms. (required)
  • Extensive experience solving technical and nontechnical problems; able to delegate solutioning when appropriate to the proper resources. (required)
  • Experience in complex higher education environments, serving academic and administrative functions of a large public university. (preferred)
  • 5+ years experience leading teams in a management or leadership role, particularly in a fastpaced, serviceoriented environment. (preferred)
  • 10+ years experience working in one or more of the following fields: DevOps, cloud, product management, information technology, IT service management, or related field. (preferred)
  • Advanced expertise in Cloud principles, practices, and tools, with significant experience in IT operations, software development, or related roles. (required)
  • Advanced scripting and programming skills (e.g., Python, Bash, Ruby, Perl) for automation and tooling. Indepth knowledge of cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation). (required)
  • Advanced understanding of networking, security, and system administration concepts, and experience with Linux and Windows operating systems. (required)
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including mentorship, negotiation, and change management. Motivates and inspires staff to improve technology with human centered design principles. (required)
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills and is able to communicate work assignments to mediumsized teams. Demonstrated experience presenting complex technical information to audiences of technical and nontechnical stakeholders. (required)
  • Advanced project management skills with demonstrated experience delegating responsibility, tracking project progress, supervising others, and advising teams on competing priorities. (required)
